Standby consumption depends on the model and enabled features. Network connectivity, quick-start settings and displays can change the load. Enter a measured standby value where possible and only include hours when the devices are in that state.
Formula
Annual standby use = watts per device ÷ 1,000 × standby hours per day × device count × 365. Cost = kWh × your electricity rate. Monthly consumption and cost are annual totals divided by 12.
Worked example
Five devices drawing 2 W each for 20 standby hours a day consume 0.2 kWh daily and 73 kWh annually. Multiply 73 by the price per kWh on your bill to estimate their energy cost.
What the result means
The result identifies whether a measured standby load is worth investigating. If devices have different loads or schedules, calculate them separately rather than using one value for every device.

Only if the device remains in standby all day. Subtract hours of active operation.
Is switching everything off always appropriate?
Check the manufacturer’s instructions. Refrigeration, alarms, medical equipment and essential networking may need continuous power.
