₹8.00/kWh is an illustrative input, not an India-wide average or an official electricity tariff. Replace it with the applicable rate for your state, DISCOM, consumer category and consumption slab.

Electricity price

Electricity duty, fuel or power purchase adjustments, fixed charges and subsidies depend on the applicable state and DISCOM rules. No national tax percentage or subsidy is assumed. Slab thresholds, sanctioned-load charges and time-of-day tariffs are not automatically modelled.

India

An electricity 'unit' on an Indian bill means one kWh. There is no single household tariff that applies across India: your DISCOM, state, connection category, billing period and consumption slabs matter. For the likely cost of extra appliance use, check the rate applicable to the additional units rather than assuming that your bill divided by total units is the marginal rate.

For cooling, compare measured electricity use or the relevant BEE label information, not only an air conditioner's tonnage. Tonnage describes cooling capacity, not electrical input in kW. Ceiling fans, refrigerators, water pumps and electric geysers are useful starting points for a household review. Where an inverter or battery supplies appliances, allow for energy lost when charging and converting power.
